No verão passado, o CEO da Paramount Pictures, Brian Robbins, causou alvoroço na indústria de animação quando disse que a empresa se concentraria apenas em longas-metragens baseados em Propriedades Intelectuais (IP) porque as ideias originais eram muito arriscadas. “Não vamos lançar um longa-metragem original caro e apenas rezar para que as pessoas venham”, foi sua declaração na época.
A opinião de Brian Robbins foi amplamente criticada por figuras importantes da indústria, incluindo Guillermo del Toro e Chris Miller, resultando em uma rápida retratação da presidente da Paramount Animation, Ramsey Ann Naito, que disse que o estúdio definitivamente continuaria desenvolvendo produções originais.
Recentemente, Naito cumpriu essa promessa ao anunciar cinco novas produções que estão atualmente em desenvolvimento na Paramount. Em uma entrevista concedida à Variety, Naito disse “fazer longas-metragens que alcancem crianças e suas famílias em qualquer lugar, que tenham uma capacidade real de identificação, que pareçam amplos e diversos”.
Durante e entrevista Naito apresentou as cinco novas produções da Paramount Animation:
- “Dropz” é “nosso E.T. sobre crianças reais em uma situação extraordinária”, segundo Naito. Rob Letterman (Pokémon: Detetive Pikachu, Monstros vs. Alienígenas) dirigirá a partir de um roteiro que está co-escrevendo com Ike Holter. Bad Bunny é o produtor executivo e Will Ferrell produzirá ao lado de Jessica Elbaum e David Koplan.
- “Muttnik”, uma comédia de ficção científica em que um cão se tornou um “bandido espacial do tipo Han Solo” retorna para acertar as contas com a família que o abandonou. Os roteiristas são Mike LeSieur, Chris Yost e Michael McCullers. Os produtores são Ron Howard, Brian Grazer e Zareh Nalbandian.
- “Once Upon a Motorcycle Dude” foi descrito por Naito como um “disruptor dos contos de fadas” em que uma princesa e um “cara em uma motocicleta pós-apocalítica” trabalham juntos para salvar um reino. Karen Rosenfelt irá produzir.
- Uma releitura atualizada de “O Lago dos Cisnes “escrita por Kourtney Kang (Como Eu Conheci Sua Mãe) e produzida por Temple Hill.
- “Yokai Samba” é descrito por Naito como “nosso “O Último Guerreiro das Estrelas” uma produção direcionada ao Brasil”. “Yokai Samba” será dirigido pelo artista brasileiro Leo Matsuda, que dirigiu o curta-metragem “Inner Workings” (Cabeça ou Coração) para Disney, lançado em 2016. Mitch Watson está escrevendo o roteiro e Stacy Lubliner será a produtora do longa-metragem.
